Join St. Thomas pilgrims for a pilgrimage to the United Kingdom in September of 2024. We’ll travel from September 5-15, with an optional extension to Northern Ireland and Ireland from September 15-20. We’ll explore the roots of Christianity in the British Isles and Ireland. And, along the way deepen our own faith.
Here are a few of the highlights of our tour:
- In York, we’ll visit the cathedral called the York Minister. We’ll tour the Viking Museum and even participate in an archaeological dig!
- In Whitby, we’ll visit the ruins of the abbey that was the site of a famous synod related to the history of Christianity in England. This leg will take us close to Hadrian’s Wall.
- On Holy Island (formerly known as Lindisfarne), we’ll see the ruins there, and celebrate the Eucharist before heading to Edinburgh, Scotland.
- In Edinburgh, we’ll see many historic spots and meet with contemporary church leaders to learn how they are addressing the challenges in their city. When we travel on to Glasgow, we’ll do the same thing there.
- We’ll spend two nights on the island of Iona, the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland. David and Fran have been there twice. It’s a holy place much loved by both of us.
- Those who must return home will do so, but for the rest, we’ll cross the Irish Sea in a ferry, landing in Belfast. We’ll tour Belfast and then visit Downpatrick, the site sacred to St. Patrick. Then we’ll head to Dublin to see the Book of Kells (and visit the Guinness factory for a tasting and tour). Our final Irish stops will be Glendalough and Kildare, places sacred to St. Kevin and St. Brigid, respectively.
Space on this pilgrimage is very limited, so please don’t wait to sign up, or there may not be a spot.
