ANNOUNCEMENTS
Notes on music. On the seventh Sunday of the Easter season
we traditionally observe the Ascension of Christ, which actually
occurs on the preceding Thursday, the 40th
day after the
Resurrection. Several of our hymns mark
the occasion.
As spring blooms around
us, the choir sings David Schwoebel’s
contemporary setting of the words to hymn 291, “All good gifts
around us are sent from heaven above.”
While we often associate
this hymn with harvest time and
Thanksgiving, the words are
certainly appropriate when many of us
are busy getting our lawns
and gardens in order. More importantly,
the outburst of new
life all around us is symbolic of the Resurrection and God’s love
for us. Schwoebel
sets the verses in a light, popular style, while
the chorus becomes a soaring chorale.
United Thank Offering
(UTO) Spring Ingathering is today. If
you forgot to bring your blue box today you may bring it to church
next Sunday.
