Everyone is invited to join Revs. David and Fran in a Bible study, entitled Living the Gospel in Empire, Empowered by Christ. 

This five-class Zoom study will begin by studying sin and its entrance in the world in the Garden of Eden. We will explore how the power of sin acts in and through us. The class will examine the Bible’s descriptions of the societal structures in which sin thrives. It will invite us to see how Jesus’ coming into the world, the gospel’s good news of his life, death, and resurrection, offered a new way of living in empire. And we’ll see how Paul’s subsequent teachings took that good news and helped these new Christians to live the gospel in the Roman Empire, empowered by Christ. And since we too live in empire, we’ll spend time reflecting on how Christ might be empowering us bring the good news of what we are learning into our lives and our world today. 

Each class will also look at Pompeii as a microcosm of first century urban life in the Roman Empire, sharing some of what we saw on our trip in May 2025.
